Gravity Colonics: Your Questions Answered

What is a Gravity Colonic?

At our studio, we have specialized in the Woods Gravity Method, as we find this to be the most effective process for colon cleansing. This method allows us to customize the session specifically to your body, and is the most intuitive and effective colon cleansing method out there.

What is the difference between a gravity colonic, colon hydrotherapy, and colonic cleansing?
All of these terms describe the cleansing of the colon with water. We use the terms interchangeably but most often we say “Colonics”.

However, not all colonic methods are the same. The Gravity Colonic is distinct and very different than other methods and is in great demand for this reason.

What happens during a Gravity Colonic session?

Filtered water enters the large intestine via gravity from a tank that is located at a specific height above your body. It allows the water to flow naturally into your colon through a surgical rubber tube. The process is liberating and comfortable. There is nothing for you to do during the process. I am with you throughout the entire session to assist the flow of water and momentum during the entire session. You just lay back and relax and I will do the rest!

How often should I do Colon Cleansing?

A Gravity Colonic is like working out with a personal trainer. Your colon will get stronger with each treatment.

I personally do a weekly colonic (sometimes more if I eat something that doesn’t agree with me, or I am under the weather or have more stress to process) and have done that regimen for the last 12 years. I love my weekly sessions! I typically recommend a colonic at minimum every 2 weeks in order to maintain optimal colon health and well-being.

How long does a colon hydrotherapy session take?
Appointments are an hour long, and the colon therapy treatment time is approximately 40-50 minutes. We allow 75 minutes for first time treatments to allow plenty of time to answer questions, explain the process, administer the colonic, and finish up. Our aim is to ensure your body is in a calm, optimal and clear space by the end of the treatment.

What is the purpose of having a colonic? What are the benefits?

Colonics encourage a decompression on a cellular level, which promotes:

-  A euphoric feeling of lightness

-  Improved mental focus and clarity

-  Improvement of your skin tone and health

-  Aids in joint mobility

-  Clears out sinuses

-  Improved bowel function

-  Reduces backed up gasses from the system

-  Reduces bloat and flattens the tummy

How do I prepare for a session?.

The most important prep is coming in on an empty stomach. Try not to eat 3 hours before your appointment (this includes smoothies). Raw juice is great, as it is doesn’t activate digestion. Also, reduce your liquid intake 1 hours before your appointment.

Will I lose weight?

You will lose weight in waste and toxins. If your body does not have extra weight to lose, it will maintain its weight. If you are trying lose weight in conjunction with gravity colonics, you have made a great decision. When you come in for your session, let me know your goals and intentions so I can help you. I have studied food and the effects on the body for decades. It would be my pleasure to help you in this area.

Will a colonic clear up my skin?

Cleansing the colon diminishes the burden placed upon the skin as well as the other organs of elimination: lungs, liver and kidneys. As this process of elimination is accomplished, the skin will very often clear up, especially in conjunction with lifestyle improvements and a clean diet.

Will the colonic wash out my healthy bacteria?

No, this is a common misconception. Good bacteria can only breed in a clean environment. Cleansing the intestine of putrefied waste and gas will create an environment for healthy bacteria to thrive. Friendly bacteria is entrenched in the intestines, and any bacteria that is washed away in a colonic will quickly repopulate, based on the conditions of your gut.

It is a good idea to re-hydrate with water and vegetable juice after each colonic, and include fermented vegetables in your diet.

Regular consumption of freshly pressed vegetable juice and probiotics will help foster the regeneration of your flora over time.

Is it embarrassing to have a colonic? Does it hurt?

Not at all! Most people find the process very therapeutic and even relaxing, and often clients have fantastic and enjoyable conversations with the therapist (me!), catching up on life, or enjoying some peaceful silence. Your body is completely covered, and there is no odor or mess.

Can I receive a treatment during my menstrual cycle?

Yes, in fact it's usually a good time to receive a treatment, since your body is already cleansing, and clients find that it relieves any menstrual symptoms they might be experiencing. Your flow will not interfere with the success of the treatment. The release of waste and gas can relieve painful pressure, cramping, and bloating, promoting an ease of flow. There are absorbent pads underneath you in case your cycle begins during the session.

Can I receive treatment if I am not feeling well?

Yes. In fact, I generally recommend it! A colonic is one of most effective things you can do to speed your recovery. Symptoms of “illness” are most often a sign the body is overwhelmed with waste and toxicity, which has not been able to exit through the usual channels of elimination. Removing the burdensome waste and gas will aid in diminishing the symptoms and promote an expedient recovery.

Can I have a colonic if I am pregnant?
Yes, but only during the second trimester and only if you have had colonics in the past. It is best to wait until before or after a pregnancy if you are new to Gravity Colonics.

How will I feel after the colon hydrotherapy is over? Can I resume normal activities after a colonic?

Most clients feel a sense of rejuvenation, happiness, lightness, and overall well-being and go back to their life, go to yoga class, run errands, or work.

If you feel the need to rest, honor that.

As you continue with this work, many clients report a feeling of euphoria after a really good colonic.

Lower back pain may be alleviated or relieved after one treatment, as well. Often back pain is backed up gasses and waste in the system.

What do I eat after a colonic cleansing?

I suggest you have a fresh vegetable juice or raw coconut water after a colonic. Waiting an hour or two post-colonic before eating is always a good idea. When ready to eat, consume a moderate amount of whatever seems gentle and nourishing to you. Salads, vegetable soups or broth, fruit, or vegetable juices and other whole, organic plant foods are optimal choices.

Are there any contraindications to having a colon hydrotherapy?
Yes, please click here for a full list. Please consult your health care provider if you have any of these contraindications but interested in including Colonics in your life.

I look forward to meeting you!

In gratitude, Xell
